I know, holiday time is over my friends. But I still want to travel.
I want to remember sunny days lying on the beach and slurping jugs of colourful granita. No! Not the industrial stuff! I’m talking about the real thing!
These days I am quite obsessed with Granitas; it is dead easy to make and such a great invention. No need for an ice cream maker, only a freezer and that’s Summertime for you. Like for example the “Cote d’Azur” in France. No, that’s too close. I need a more exotic destination, something farther East…how about a lemonade Granita with lemongrass and basil?
Lemonade Granita with lemongrass and basil:
– 2 dozens Thai basil leaves
– 4/5 lemongrass sticks
– 300 ml water
– 700 ml lemonade
In a pan, heat up the water and lemongrass for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from the stove and add the basil. Place a lid on top and let to infuse for a good 20 minutes.
Use a sieve to filter then pour into a large freezer container with the lemonade. As it freezes, beat the ice with a fork or knife after one and a half hour. Then repeat two more times after an hour.
Take the granite out of the freezer 10 minutes before eating. If you’d rather drink it with a straw, farniente-style, just break it up in a blender.
Now is the time to spread your toes!
